Take It, Lock It, Or Lose It - Vehicle Burglary Prevention

The DeLand Police Department encourages residents to "Take it, Lock it, or Lose it!"

There has been a slew of vehicle burglaries in the last month, mainly occurring overnight when valuables are left in plain view or the vehicle is left unlocked. The "Take it, Lock it, or Lose it" campaign is a way of reminding citizens that simply removing valuables from the vehicle and ensuring to lock your vehicle can significantly reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of vehicle burglary. A laptop, cell phone, GPS, purse, or even a cup holder full of change can tempt a thief.

Prevention tips:

• Close your windows and lock your doors
• Remove all valuables
• Park in well-lit areas when possible
• Park your car where it will be easily and frequently viewed
• Park in your garage if you have one
