Prescription Drug Drop Box
The DeLand Police Department has a new Prescription Drug Drop Box located in the lobby of the police department at 219 West Howry Ave, DeLand. The goal of the Prescription Drug Drop Box is to provide people with a simple, safe, and secure method to dispose of unneeded prescription medication.
We hope the drop box will help to combat a growing nationwide opioid crisis by reducing access to medications for accidental or intentional misuse by persons for whom the prescription was not written.
The Prescription Drug Drop Box can only be used for prescription medications. No illegal drugs such as marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, etc. will be accepted through this program. The Prescription Drug Drop Box is not intended for the disposal of aerosol cans, inhalers, needles, or thermometers. Please ensure all pills are in a container, such as a pill bottle or plastic bag. Liquid medications may be disposed of in the original sealed bottle and then placed in a plastic bag.
This service will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Outside of normal business hours, those coming to drop off will have to use the phone in the PD lobby to call the non-emergency dispatch line for an officer to respond to give them access.
