A DeLand Middle School student has been charged with disrupting a school function after spraying mace in school Friday.
Police responded shortly after 11 a.m. Friday to DeLand Middle School after students at the school were reporting having trouble breathing.
An investigation found the suspected student did not spray the mace at anyone directly but it ended up affecting up to 17 students.
The students affected by the mace were treated by DeLand Fire and EMS and released without medical transport.
