A DeLand High School student has been charged after lying about a possible shooting threat, which prompted a school lockdown.
Police responded about 11:10 a.m. Thursday to DeLand High after the student, a 17-year-old junior, reported he overheard two other students talking about shooting someone.
As a precaution, the school was placed on lockdown while police tried to determine the credibility of the threat. Police searched every classroom but found no firearms nor did officers find any possible suspects.
The lockdown was lifted and the reporting student was interviewed and later admitted to making up the story to get out of school.
The student was charged with disrupting a school function, a misdemeanor.
