Over the weekend, a DeLand High School student posted a threat on social media that there was going to be a shooting at the school today (12/13/21).

A concerned parent contacted law enforcement yesterday and the student has since been taken into custody.

The student, Nicholas Cruz, 16, was charged with written threat to kill or injure, a felony. 
 

There were no weapons found on Cruz or in his room at his home other than airsoft guns. However, he did have a body armor vest.

We want to assure parents and students that there is no active threat to the school and DeLand Police will have an increased presence there out of an abundance of caution.
