The DeLand Police Department is excited to announce the efforts of our police department volunteers in raising funds for a new statue memorial to be dedicated to police officers, past and present.
The Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association aims to raise $32,000 for the statue, which will be placed in the front of the police department and will serve as a symbol of honor and respect for our officers.

"This statue will serve as a symbol of gratitude to all DeLand police officers past and present who have dedicated their lives to protecting our community,” said Chief Jason Umberger. “It will go hand-in-hand with a project by a local Boy Scout, TJ Sistrunk, who is dedicating his Eagle Scout Project to building a memorial wall along with beautifying the patio area in front of our police department.”
Sistrunk, a local Boy Scout, is creating a memorial wall and base for the statue in the front of the lobby of the police department. The work is Sistrunk’s Eagle Scout Project.
The Citizens Police Academy is a non-profit organization made up of community members who support and assist the DeLand Police Department.
"We are honored to be a part of this project that will pay tribute to our brave men and women in blue. We hope that this statue will serve as a symbol of unity between law enforcement and the community,” said Mike Dungan, president of the CPAAA.
The statue memorial is expected to be unveiled in a dedication ceremony later this year.
