Last week, Ms. Zoie Weinberger, who our newest K-9 is named after, visited DeLand PD to meet her namesake. Zoie Weinberger is a freshman student-athlete at Stetson University and is a member of the women’s soccer team.
Zoie's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eric and Megan Weinberger made a generous donation to DeLand PD to purchase K-9 Midnight who is teamed with Ofc. Damon Clark. To honor the Weinberger’s generosity to our department, K-9 Zoie was named after their daughter.
K-9 Zoie is a 13-month-old female German Shepherd. K-9 Zoie and her handler Ofc. Dylan Scott (pictured along with Zoie Weinberger) will begin their required K-9 Patrol Handler certification course on Monday, April 25, 2022. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement requires all K-9 dogs and their handlers to undergo 480 hours of training to be certified to work in the State of Florida. K-9 teams (handler and dog) are also required to attend recurrent training to demonstrate continued proficiency after they complete their initial certification.
Thank you so much to the Weinberger’s for the contribution to our department and the community as a whole.
