As the kiddos prepare to go trick or treating this weekend, it's important to keep safety in mind.
Here are some tips from the National Safety Council:
- Be sure all costumes, wigs and accessories are fire-resistant.
- If children are allowed out after dark, outfit their costumes with reflective tape or give them glow sticks
- A responsible adult should accompany young children while out in neighborhoods
- If older children are going alone, plan and review an acceptable route.
- Agree on a specific time children should return home
- Teach your children never to enter a stranger's car or home
For motorists:
- Watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbs
- Enter and exit driveways and alleys carefully
- At twilight and later in the evening, watch for children in dark clothing
- Discourage new and inexperienced drivers from driving on Halloween
