Four juveniles arrested in connection to shooting that injured a 41-year-old man

(DeLand, FL) - Four juveniles have been arrested in connection to a Tuesday shooting in the Candlelight Oaks subdivision that injured a 41-year-old DeLand man. 

At 1:26 p.m. Tuesday, two males identified as Thomas Lacorte II, 41, and his son, Walker Lacorte, 18, both of DeLand. arrived at the DeLand Fire Department at  after Thomas Lacorte had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Thomas Lacorte was taken to a nearby hospital and his injury was not considered life-threatening. 

Walker Lacorte later told a detective that he and his father had gone to 900 Sherwood Drive to sell marijuana to a male that had contacted them over Snapchat. 

When they arrived at the home, Jarvis Carr, 17, entered their vehicle to inspect the marijuana and then pulled a handgun from the his waistband and demanded their belongings, Walker Lacorte told police. 

At that time, several males armed with handguns emerged from the home and surrounded the vehicle and started taking items from the Lacortes including a bag that was eventually given back. Thomas Lacorte was able to secure a firearm from the bag and pointed it at the males while he backed out of the driveway of the home. The suspect males fired at the vehicle several times as the Lacortes fled. The Lacortes claimed they did not fire any shots at the group. 

Walker later positively identified Carr, Daquante Johnson, 17, Elijah Bruten, 15, and Kveon Jiles, 14, as having been involved in the incident. They were all charged with robbery with a firearm using a deadly weapon and aggravated battery. Jiles is also facing charges related to another case.

More arrests and charges are pending in this case.
