DPD Employee Spotlight - Corporal Matt Salmon

Our DPD Employee spotlight for January 2022 is Corporal Matt Salmon.

Matt has worked in our Patrol Division and as a Detective in our Criminal Investigations Unit. Matt was recently promoted to Corporal and is currently assigned to “B” Squad in our Patrol Division. Matt has an infectious smile and is a great guy to work with. We thank Matt for his dedicated service to the department and to our community.

Why did you become a Police Officer with DeLand Police Department? I became a police officer because I always wanted to work in a career where I could be a part of something larger than myself. I feel as if the work I do on a daily basis has an impact on those that I serve. I also take pride in holding those who victimize others accountable for their actions. I chose the DeLand Police Department because I wanted to work for a small agency where I could get to know all of my coworkers on a personal level, and I thought that it would be a place where I would have ample opportunity to learn and grow.

What is your favorite thing about working with the DeLand Police Department? My favorite part of working for the DeLand Police Department is the wide variety of calls for service that we respond to on a day-to-day basis. I feel as if DeLand officers are exposed to a wide range of calls for service, making us well-rounded public servants.

What is your favorite food? If I had to choose a favorite food, it would be all things BBQ; especially BBQ that I make at home on my smoker.

What do you like to do on your days off? My days off are devoted to my family, and we enjoy vacationing in the mountains.
