The DeLand Police Department wants to warn the community after we received reports from two residents Friday who said they were contacted by fake border patrol agents.
The scammers claimed to be from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and told the residents their personal information was linked to a suspicious package in Texas.
Eventually, the scammers tried to get the victims to send them money. Fortunately, both residents hung up the phone and reported the incident to our officers.
CBP is aware of the scam which is targeting individuals nationwide. Please be aware these scammers can sound very convincing and may even provide your personal information. Don’t fall for it and report it.
