The DeLand Police Department has made arrests in connection with the recent rash of car burglaries impacting our city.
Our Property Crimes Unit has been working diligently to eradicate the issue. At this time, more arrests are expected, and the investigation is ongoing.
“I’m proud of the great work our officers are doing to hold those responsible for these crimes accountable,” said Chief Jason Umberger. “We appreciate the community’s cooperation as we continue to investigate.”
This month, our officers responded to a rash of car burglaries, impacting heavily populated neighborhoods. Monday, 15 residents in the Bent Oaks Subdivision reported car burglaries and earlier this month 10 residents reported break-ins on the city’s southeast side.
As we continue to investigate these crimes, we urge the community to lock their car doors. Unlocked cars are an easy target for criminals.
Also, under no circumstances store weapons in your vehicle. During many of the car burglaries, police are discovering that suspects are stealing firearms.
Residents, if you notice any behavior that would be considered suspicious, please call (911) to report this to law enforcement immediately.
