DeLand PD participating in No Shave November
(DeLand, FL) - Many of the city's police officers will look a little different during the month of November.
A total of 29 police officers have signed on to participate in No Shave November to benefit the West Volusia Police Athletic League. For the initiative, Police Chief Jason Umberger waived the department's policy prohibiting facial hair. Female officers participating will be allowed to wear colored nail polish during the month of November.
To participate in the program officers donated $40 each to PAL for a total of $1,160.
"This is a great way to show support for the youth in our community," said Police Chief Jason Umberger.
DeLand PD is the sole sponsor for West Volusia PAL, which provides quality athletic and educational activities for at-risk children in the greater DeLand area. The organization recently hired a new coordinator, Willie Johnson, who has quickly implemented new sports programs including tennis and boxing to go along with PAL's wrestling program. Volleyball and basketball will also soon be offered.
To register a child for PAL, the cost is only $25 per year and gives children access to all of the sports programs as well as after-school tutoring services. For more information, please go to https://volusia.crimewatchfl.com/delandpd/42614/content/police-athletic-league
