DeLand Middle School student arrested after threatening to bring gun to school

(DeLand, FL) - A DeLand Middle School student has been charged with making a threat to bring a gun onto campus and commit violence.

The School Resource Officer at DeLand Middle School was alerted Tuesday morning to the threat made by a 14-year-old male student via text messages he exchanged with another student.

During the course of the investigation, the student admitted to planning to bring a gun to school so that it would be placed on lock down. No weapons were found and the student was taken into custody without incident. 

The student is charged with one felony count of making a written threat to kill or injure and has been transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
