
(DeLand, FL) - Police are seeking assistance in identifying the operator of a truck who stole outgoing mail from outside residences in west DeLand.
On at least two separate occasions this month, residents on Brittle Fern Drive reported that the operator of a truck stole outgoing mail that that had been placed in their mailboxes overnight. In one instance, gift cards and a personal check accompanying a birthday card were stolen and in the other case a check for an outgoing car payment was stolen.
The thefts have occurred in the early morning hours.

To lessen the chances of being a victim of mail theft, here are some tips for residents:
- Use secure mailboxes to send outgoing mail.
- If you want to use your personal mailbox to deliver payments, place the mail in your mailbox shortly before the carrier arrives.
- Promptly remove incoming mail from your mailbox after it arrives.
