Update: Arrest Made in McCabe’s Bar Homicide Investigation
The DeLand Police have arrested Avantae Traeviyon Williams, 24, of DeLand, in connection with this case. Since the incident, the Criminal Investigations Division has worked diligently to gather evidence and develop leads. Through the course of their investigation, detectives identified Williams as the suspected shooter.
In collaboration with the State Attorney’s Office, DeLand detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Second Degree Murder. On May 5, 2025 DeLand officers arrested Williams and took him into custody without incident.
This remains an open and active investigation. Detectives continue to collect evidence and conduct interviews. Approximately 40 patrons were inside McCabe’s Bar on the night of the incident.

DeLand, FL- Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that took place Saturday morning at McCabe’s Bar, located at 225 N. Amelia Avenue in DeLand.
Officers from the DeLand Police Department and Volusia Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting around 1:30 a.m., where witnesses told investigators that a fistfight broke out between several men inside the bar. During the altercation, one of the men produced a firearm and began shooting.
The victim, identified as 32-year-old Keshod Harris of DeLand, was struck multiple times in the chest. He was transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The victim’s next of kin has been notified.
A bartender was also injured in the shooting, sustaining gunshot wounds to both hands. The bartender was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect fled the scene, possibly in a vehicle, and has not been located.
