DeLand PD offers house check requests, other services online
December 14, 2017
(DeLand, FL) – As residents get ready to go out of town for the holidays, they can rest assured knowing that DeLand Police officers will have their backs.
Through the agency’s website, residents can request officers check on their homes while they’re away, depending on available manpower. If requested, a officer will check on the home every 24 hours and walk around the residence to ensure the home is secured and there are no signs of forced entry.
If something is discovered, the emergency contact provided will be notified and the homeowner will also be contacted. Home owners should contact the police department when they have returned home.
“We want our residents to not have to worry about their homes when they’re away,” said Police Chief Jason Umberger. “Fill out the online form in our DeLand Crime Watch Portal found under the 'Forms' tab and we will take care of it."
The house check is offered year-round, but until now people had to either call or stop into the office to request the house check, which residents may still do.
House check services are one of several services that will be or are already offered on the police department’s website – www.delandpd.com. Residents may also commend or file a complaint against an officer, submit an anonymous tip about an area crime and sign up to receive notifications regarding recent arrests or news posts.
“Not only do we want to provide exemplary services but our goal is to be as transparent and accessible as possible with our residents,” Umberger said.
