On November 6th, 2019, Deland Officers conducted a routine traffic stop for a driver not wearing a seat belt. When officers approached the driver they smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and the drivers eyes were glassy and bloodshot. When the driver was speaking with the officers it was observed that his speech was slurred. The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle and to conduct several field sobriety test. The driver failed and was secured in handcuffs and placed in the patrol vehicle. The vehicle he was driving was to be towed so the officers conducted and inventory of the vehicle prior to the tow truck coming and it was at this time that the officers located what tested to be crack cocaine and paraphernalia in the vehicle. The suspect was transported to the holding facility where he declined to submit to any further testing. It should be noted , a records check of the suspect reviled that the suspect had been arrested prior for DUI and his license previously suspended. The suspect was then transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail with out incident.
