On March 30th, 2019 at around 4:32 pm , Deland Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries. While in route to the accident officers were notified that the suspect who cased the accident attempted to flee from the scene, 2 witnesses restrained the suspect further down the road until officers arrived. When officers arrived they immediately secured the suspect in handcuffs. While placing the handcuffs on the suspect officers noticed he was gripping a clear baggie in his hand. When officers tried to retrieve the bag from his hand he let it go and dropped it on the ground and claimed it was not his. Officers observed 3 pills in the bag and immediately tested the pills. The pills were identified as Oxycodone and Alprazolam. During the course of the investigation the suspect was also found to have an open container in the vehicle, no valid drivers license , and an expired tag. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail with out incident.
